Reynders Label Printing, Belgium

Best quality, price & customer service for each label job

Reynders Label Printing started as the print shop Reynders Printing in 1956 and evolved to focused label printing from 1970 onwards. Today Reynders is present in 2 continents (Europe, Asia), 4 countries (Belgium, France, Poland, India), 6 locations, 8 plants with some 335 employees. The Reynders group serves very broad markets covering food & beverage, pharmaceutical, cosmetics & hygiene, household & garden care, chemical, industrial, promotional and textile industries. The Reynders machine park includes dry toner, liquid toner, as well as UV ink jet digital presses on top of a wide range of conventional printing units for flexo, letterpress, screen, offset, as well as foil, lamination and embossing systems. For E.A.S. (“Electronic Article Surveillance) applications, Reynders integrates RFID, electromagnetic (EM) as well as acoustomagnetic (AM) elements in customer labels and cards.

Best quality, price, and customer service for each label job

Its professional prepress service and self-developed MIS system are focused on achieving creative and administrative excellence. As a quality conscious enterprise, Reynders Label Printing obtained ISO 9002 and ISO 14001 certificates among the first in the industry. Entering digital printing in 1997, the Reynders group continued to invest in digital print solutions, including a Xeikon 3300 in 2008, and, in 2010, a Xeikon 3500.

OFFER THE BEST QUALITY, PRICE, AND CUSTOMER SERVICE FOR EACH SPECIFIC JOB!

“To offer the best quality, price, and customer service for each specific job is the challenge we face every day”, says Marc Reynders CEO of the Reynders group, “Therefore Reynders continuously invests in new technologies. With (roll-to-roll) self adhesive label production as a clear focus, the company masters the different label production technologies (flexo, letterpress, offset, screen and digital as well as advanced visual inspection) in view of maximum flexibility to meet customer demands. From our EskoArtwork prepress and self-developed MIS system, the customer service department calculates the best production fit for any incoming job.” He continues: “We constantly keep in mind that the different print technologies are in fact internal competitors. Be it narrow web or wide web, digital or conventional, the goal is always to achieve best quality and make the optimum production choice.”

XEIKON IS ALMOST ALWAYS OUR FIRST CHOICE FOR RELIABLE DIGITAL QUALITY PRODUCTION

According to Marc Reynders: “There is a saying in the house ‘You want it done? Put it on the Xeikon!’. That pretty much sums it all up: reliability and quality are guaranteed on our Xeikon presses. The Xeikon engines are interchangeable, with the Xeikon 3500 offering specific size and productivity advantages. The two systems, Xeikon 3300 and Xeikon 3500, deliver equal high quality and simply get the digital jobs done and done well. That is very important in a production environment!” Over time it happens very often that the same label is produced with different technologies, each time depending on the best fitting combination of quality, pricing and customer requirements. The digital systems are fine tuned to match (or improve) the conventional quality and finishing capabilities. The choice to have both narrow and wide web solutions in the house also in digital is again driven by the goal to serve the customer in the best way. The company runs wide web finishing solutions but typically will slit and rewind the Xeikon 3500 output immediately to fit on the narrow web finishing lines. Whenever possible the Xeikon 3300 is used in case in line finishing is required.

TWO MAIN DECISION DRIVERS WERE PROFITABILITY AND QUALITY.

Patrick Peeters, head of calculation, claims: “The Xeikon3300 digital label press truly realized our profitability and quality objectives. That is why the latest investment was another Xeikon press, this time a Xeikon 3500 wide web printing solution. After the convincing performance of the Xeikon 3300, the Xeikon 3500 confirms that these are very reliable machines.”

PROFITABILITY AS IN PRODUCTIVITY

The Xeikon 3500 is the most productive toner digital label press on the market. The trusted full rotary approach from conventional presses guarantees maximum productivity. This productivity, together with the 20” imaging, allows full color production regardless of the size of the label or the number of colors used. According to Reynders, up-time is great compared with other digital solutions.

PROFITABILITY AS IN COST CONTROL.

Says Peeters: “The use of standard substrates requiring no pretreatment or coating helps in different ways. First of all in lower cost (equal to conventional, lower than other digital solutions), but also in shorter delivery times to us and by us, plus in less and simpler stock management, thus lowering working capital than by using special materials. Compared with often expensive click programs, payment by toner usage to us is almost always the best possible and most advantageous solution.”

QUALITY AND CONSISTENCY

With quality being an important foundation of profitability, the unique one-pass-white toner creates great white coverage without penalty for the productivity. Xeikon presses are highly color stable, an area where dry toner is better than other digital presses. Strong consistency in color, both in time and between the two Xeikon systems, is another quality trump card, partly due to the in-line densitometer. The wide color gamut and the presence of a fifth additional color stand for professional color matching. (The additional spot colors are white, red, green, blue, orange, extra magenta, and clear toner.) The professional and true 1200dpi addressability meets the ever rising quality demands from our customers in terms of color and detail reproduction (small fonts, use of multiple languages…)

NEW CAPABILITIES: LARGE SIZE LABELS, PACKAGING…

The main reason for Reynders Label Printing to invest in a Xeikon 3500 is its size. The Xeikon 3500 wide web imaging width combined with the full rotary concept (variable repeat length) without fixed repeat allows the printing of special large sizes that can only be done digitally on a Xeikon press.

XEIKON QA-I TONER: LIGHT FAST, AND FDA COMPLIANT

Xeikon’s QA-I toner has been formulated to take toner light fastness to an entirely new level. Light fastness is a measure of how well a printed image resists discoloration or fading as a result of exposure to sunlight over time. Some printed images, such as those located in an office environment where the image is affected mostly by artificial light, have lower light fastness requirements than images that will be continuously exposed to sunlight. Xeikon’s QA-I toner, produced at the company’s dedicated toner plant in Heultje-Belgium, meets the applicable U.S. Food and Drug Administration guidelines for indirect and direct food contact with dry food items under room temperature and less severe conditions. This opens up new capabilities for digital label production for food applications, one more revenue stream open to Xeikon press users.

SOFTWARE EXCELLENCE AS IN PROFESSIONAL VARIABLE DATA HANDLING!

Prepress & Digital Print Manager, André Van de Pitte, claims; “With its strong and flexible Xeikon X-800 front end, Xeikon is the best supplier in terms of handling variable data, be they alphanumeric data and/or barcodes and/or QR codes, used more and more in marketing related campaigns.” The use of variable data is growing indeed. Codes on labels link to the internet, variable data refer to product characteristics, while others play an ever more important role in production data logging and traceability. Reynders Etiketten has also already tested the X-800 digital front-end driven by the Adobe PDF Print Engine 2.5, and André Vandepitte observed: “We do receive a lot of different PDF files, generated by customers from all places, by different kinds of applications. We have been using the new Adobe PDF Print Engine 2.5 for some months now, and haven’t been able yet to detect any mistake.”

XEIKON SERVICE IS EQUAL TO REYNDERS SERVICE!

Marc Reynders is very clear: “Since we consider service an inherent part of any solution, we expect from our suppliers the same level of service as our own. And, here too, Xeikon performs best-inclass! Xeikon teams listen. They understand our business. They are friendly. They accept ownership of issues and solve them or get them solved without finger pointing or fuzz! That’s exactly what we expect from our own team members!
